Bangalore transit authority introduces leave management kiosks

March 25, 2014

The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation is rolling out touchscreen self-service kiosks to help its employees plan and apply for leave, reports The Hindu newspaper. Bangalore is the capital city of the state of Karnataka in South West India.

The kiosks allow employees to view their outstanding leave balance, leave status and leave history. They can also apply for leave, cancel leave and receive confirmation via a receipt or SMS message. The kiosks offer voice assistance in English and Kannada.

The Hindu says there have been allegations of unfair leave practices by BMTC depot managers.

Employees will be able to use the kiosks to manage their leave without having to ask for permission from managers, Ramalinga Reddy, Karnataka Minister for Transport and Bangalore District Minister In Charge, said at the inauguration of the kiosks at a Bangalore bus station. Reddy added that 36 depots in the city of Gulbarga, also in Karnataka, have already received the kiosks.

"A smart card will be given to employees to use the system and soon, all BMTC depots will have the kiosks," Reddy was quoted as saying by The Hindu. The kiosks will also be also be made available to employees of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, Reddy said.
