AVT to manufacture kiosks for Flix on Stix movie download system
September 7, 2010
Corona, Calif.-based AVT, Inc. announced it has entered into an agreement with Flix on Stix to be the exclusive manufacturer of kiosks that allow customers to download movies, games and TV shows. AVT, formerly Automated Vending Technologies, is a provider of automated retailing systems and technologies.
AVT is manufacturing the kiosk system equipped with proprietary Flix software that allows customers to download movies and games to a portable USB drive, also known as a "thumb drive" or "flash drive." These inexpensive storage devices are able to receive a full-length movie in as little as 30 seconds. The customer can choose whether to purchase or rent the title for one low fee, and never incur late fees since there is nothing to return. The movies can be watched on any PC or Mac computer, or TV.
Flix on Stix plans to install its self-serve kiosks in shopping malls, retail stores, airports, hotels, convenience stores and college campuses throughout the nation. Customers will look up their desired title on the touch screen panel and insert their USB drive, and within seconds their selection is downloaded either for rental or purchase.
Since the Flix on Stix system uses dedicated Web-based technology to deliver the content, there are never any titles that are out of stock.
