Automated passport kiosks launch at Houston Int'l

February 24, 2014

Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport has deployed automated passport-processing kiosks from GCR Inc.

The kiosks collect passengers' passport and flight information, as well as their customs declaration data. It then scans their fingerprints, takes their photograph and issues a receipt.

Unlike the Global Entry kiosks that have popped up in other international airports across the country, no previous registration is required to use the APC Kiosks.

According to a news release, the APC Kiosks are constructed with commercial-grade durable materials and can be customized with each airport's unique logo and color scheme. Overhead digital signage can be added to the top of each kiosk to offer additional information or marketing opportunities for arriving international passengers.

"The development of the APC Kiosk solution was a true partnership between [Houston Aiport System] and GCR, and we worked collaboratively to leverage technology to improve passenger customer service," Tim Walsh, director of aviation services for GCR, said in the release.
