Austrian bank, post office partner with kiosks

BAWAG P.S.K., one of the largest bank groups in Austria, has modernized 380 branches through the creation of a new self-service zone in its bank lobbies.

The group will offer customers 24-hour use of automated teller machines, self-service devices for transfers, withdrawals and deposits, self-service scanners, statement printers, cash deposit machines and multi-functional devices.

Österreichische Post AG joined with BAWAG P.S.K. and technology partner Wincor Nixdorf to house postal and banking services under one roof, for enhanced convenience to customers.

"We want to offer the very best service to customers anytime and anywhere," said Arno Wohlfahrter, Head of Retail Customer Sales at BAWAG P.S.K.

Along with the benefits for the consumer, end-to-end integration and process improvements have allowed for a more streamlined banking experience. Prior to the new self-service technology, bank customers had to follow a multi-step procedure to complete their transactions on older devices.

Customers could deposit coins using self-service systems, and were issued a receipt from the device, which they then had to take to the counter where the transaction was posted manually. The coin deposit systems are now connected online using the new PC/E software platform from Wincor Nixdorf and transactions are posted immediately to the BAWAG P.S.K. customer’s account, a company press release said.

By 2013, BAWAG P.S.K. and Österreichische Post will provide total coverage nationwide with their branches, Wohlfahrter said.

The overhaul of 330 branches was complete by the end of 2011, with the remaining 140 to be completed by the end of this year. More than 1,500 Wincor Nixdorf terminals will be installed by the start of 2013, with the project slated for completion once all of the 520 branches are up and running in the first quarter of 2013.
