Aussie gov't expands campaign on travel advisories

September 7, 2003

ADELAIDE, Australia -- The federal government launched an $8.4-million media campaign and new interactive kiosks to heighten awareness of Australian travel advisories.

According to an article on news.com.au, the campaign will urge Australians to stay informed about world events before they travel. Touchscreen kiosks, already in place at Sydney Airport, will be installed at other airports to provide travelers with instant access to informational Web sites. Said Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, "It's a campaign with a simple but important purpose: to increase awareness within the Australian community of the government's travel advice service and to highlight the importance of keeping informed of developments overseas."

The three-year campaign, with funding of $4.1 million in the next year and $8.4 million overall, will feature newspaper, magazine and television advertisements highlighting a new site, smartraveller.com.au. Government travel advisories are also available through the foreign affairs department Web site, www.dfat.gov.au/travel.
