Athena Security has introduced an AI-enabled weapons screening kiosk designed for hospital ambulance bays to help protect emergency department staff and patients by closing a major security gap in patient intake areas, according to a press release.
The system integrates with Athena's existing weapons detection platform and allows staff to document screenings in real time using a dedicated iPad. It records incidents, captures photos of confiscated items and generates digital or printed receipts to ensure consistent, auditable protocols.
"The safety of our public and our healthcare heroes is paramount," Lisa Falzone, co-founder and president of Athena Security, said in the release. "Our partners in healthcare expressed how vulnerable they feel due to the security gaps at most emergency bay entrances. We wanted to help mitigate those risks."
Athena's new feature aims to replace manual, untracked screenings with a unified digital process, offering hospitals a more accountable way to detect weapons and reduce workplace violence in emergency departments.
