ATEN launches all-in-one control solution for remote kiosk management

September 19, 2011

ATEN today announced the launch of an all-in-one, hardware-based control unit that provides KVM over IP, remote power and serial console management as well as virtual media functionality. The ATEN KN1000 KVM Over the NET offers remote kiosk management and support by enabling users to monitor and access computers from remote locations using a Web browser, according to a company press release.

"It provides a wide array of functionality to manage kiosks and unmanned computers in a range of industries and applications," James Hsieh, CEO of ATEN, said in the release.

He said because of its built-in IP, remote power and serial console management, the KN1000 is effective as an end-to-end solution for remote management and virtual service solution for kiosks and other remote computing environments.

"In addition to consumer-facing environments such as retail and banking, the unit can be leveraged in factory/manufacturing installations where users can access and configure computers located in hazardous environments from a remote, safe location," Hsieh said.

To help users manage and control kiosks and servers/computers, the KN1000's built-in power outlet provides remote power management (on, off and rebooting). Users can also configure network switches and other serial control devices through the KN1000's serial console functionality. The KN1000's virtual media functionality allows users to perform diagnostic testing and file transfer, as well as OS and application patches from a remote console. According to the release, the KN1000 also enables convenient and efficient troubleshooting, allowing users to resolve any problems at the BIOS level from anywhere.
