Fort Smith, Arkansas lawmakers have approved funding for self-service kiosks that will allow residents to make utility payments, according to a talkbusiness.net report.

The city approved a contract with U.S. Payments, which has 10 payment kiosks for electric, gas and Cox payments.

The kiosks will accept cash, check or debit/credit card payments. Customers will pay a "minimal" convenience fee, but there is no cost to the city for the service.

The city estimates the kiosks will be ready to use by the first of the year, according to the report.
