Applying for food stamps easy in N.C.

January 4, 2011

The department of Social Services in New Hanover County, N.C., has deployed computer kiosks in its lobby for food-stamp applicants, according to WECT.com

City officials said it will be more effective than the 16-page-long paper applications, and that it is a quicker method to handle the increased number of applicants.

There has been an increase of about 3,000 applicants for food stamps within the past year, according to DSS officials. Social workers blame the bad economy for the increase.
