Animal rescue group develops pet-search kiosks

November 17, 2003

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Pet-Ark has developed its own way of saving animals. The group has built it own, proprietary software that works in a kiosk to let consumers search for pets.

The Animal Rescue Kiosks, or ARKs, include a computer, touchscreen and enclosure that lets users search a database of adoptable pets available in their neighborhoods. The units also offer information about various breeds and health-related issues.

The ARKs supply content from local pet-adoption and rescue organizations. The Pet-Ark software is free for these organizations to use, according to the company. The group has three different versions of its software, depending on the size of the rescue organization or vet office.

All of the software applications embrace patent-pending technologies, which include:

  • Quick and easy data-entry screens, with almost all of the options pre-defined.
  • A dynamic photo-editing mechanism that lets adoption agencies import (or capture), size, enhance and crop a digital photo or live video snapshot of the pet in seconds.
  • "StoryMaker," a story-writing mechanism that allows agencies to create a complete, unique and interesting story of each animal in seconds.
  • Dynamic updates to the Web and the kiosks with just one click.
