The American Heart Association and the Anthem Foundation have teamed up to deploy a kiosk to teach users how to do CPR. The organizations plan to deploy these kiosks to six major airports across the U.S., according to a report by EMS1.
The kiosk features a touchscreen, video screen and a practice mannequin. The kiosk gives users a brief instructional video, followed by a practice round and a 30 second CPR test. The kiosk is designed to give the user feedback on their CPR technique to improve effectiveness.
"Cardiac arrest remains a leading cause of death in the United States, and survival depends on immediately receiving CPR from someone nearby," said Clifton Callaway, chair of the AHA's Emergency Cardiovascular Care committee. "Although in-person training is still the best way to learn high-quality CPR, the kiosk will provide additional training that could make a difference and save the life of someone you love."
The kiosks will be deployed at Chicago O'Hare International, Indianapolis International, Las Vegas' McCarran International, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International and Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall airports. Also, the organizations will deploy kiosks at the Anthem Foundation's office in Washington, D.C., and The Global Center for Health Innovation in Cleveland.
