HOUSTON - American Airlines has expanded its OneStop Self-Service check-in service, adding kiosks at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. The service, created as an alternative to standard check-in procedures, was launched this spring at 30 terminals in nine airports nationally.
The service is available in Houston at American's check-in counters for passengers flying domestically. Flyers can select a seat and obtain a boarding pass using the service, which requires a credit card or an American Airlines executive platinum, platinum, or gold card, and check in their baggage with American baggage representatives. Check-in kiosks are also located at gates 25 and 27 at the airport's Terminal A for passengers not checking bags.
American currently offers 129 flights weekly to Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Miami out of George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
OneStop Self-Service was first introduced in Albuquerque, N.M.; Atlanta; Austin, Texas; Chicago; Dallas's Love Field; Minneapolis-St. Paul; Raleigh-Durham, N.C.; San Antonio, Texas; and San Jose, Calif. The service has since been expanded to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, Terminal B; Detroit; Nashville; and Seattle. American officials hope to have the service in place at more than 30 airports in the next few months.
American is one of several North American carriers utilizing kiosks in an attempt to speed up check-in times. Among other airlines, Air Canada currently has check-in kiosks at seven Canadian airports, while Continental Airlines plans to expand its kiosk fleet from 332 to nearly 600 in the next year. And in April, Alaska Airlines checked in its 10 millionth customer using a self-service kiosk.
