America West purchases 40 more check-in kiosks

PHOENIX -- America West Airlines (NYSE: AWA) has purchased 40 additional self-service check-in kiosks, bringing its total to 58 units, according to a company news release.

Kinetics' TouchPort kiosks have been installed in airports in Las Vegas, Phoenix, Tucson, Ariz., Los Angeles, Orange County, Calif., and Raleigh-Durham, N.C. Kiosks will be installed in Denver and Columbus, Ohio, by the end of June, according to the release. (See story: America West kiosks hit Southern California)

The kiosks let customers check in, select or change seat assignments, request upgrades, check frequent flyer miles and obtain a boarding pass.

America West serves 88 destinations in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Kinetics TouchPort device continues to be the most popular self-service passenger check-in kiosk, according to the release. More than 1,500 of the kiosks are in use at 120 U.S. airports (See story: Kinetics to unveil transportation security system).
