Amazon.com plans to begin stocking Eli Lilly's newly approved oral weight loss drug at kiosks located in some of its primary care clinics, while also offering same-day delivery, according to a Reuters report.
The move expands Amazon Pharmacy's existing GLP-1 offerings, which it has delivered since 2021. Unlike injectable versions of these drugs, the pill form does not require refrigeration, allowing it to be stored and dispensed through kiosks.
Amazon executives said the lack of cold storage requirements is key to scaling kiosk-based distribution and improving access. Amazon Pharmacy also fulfills prescriptions through Lilly's direct-to-consumer platform, LillyDirect, and has already been stocking Novo Nordisk's Wegovy pill in select kiosks since January.
The kiosks, currently deployed at Amazon's One Medical clinics, allow patients to pick up prescriptions after appointments, though nonmembers can also book visits and use the service. Amazon introduced the kiosks last year for commonly prescribed medications such as antibiotics and asthma treatments, positioning them as a way to reduce delivery costs and improve convenience. Expansion beyond California will depend on state regulations and potential partnerships with other healthcare providers.
