Allscripts patient kiosk uses hand-vein biometrics for secure identification

DotMed News reports that Chicago-based health records service provider Allscripts recently demonstrated a patient self-service kiosk that uses hand vein patterns, rather than iris scanning, to biometrically verify a patient's identity.
According to the report and accompanying video, this biometric scanning method is less expensive to implement than iris-scan technology.
