AirTran, Kinetics pair on airport check-in kiosk

April 24, 2003

ORLANDO -- Kinetics Inc. announced it will supply self-service check-in kiosks and related software to AirTran Airways, as reported earlier this week by KIOSKmarketplace.

The first installations have been completed at some AirTran Airways destinations, including the airline's hub at Hartsfield/Atlanta International Airport. AirTran is the nation's second-largest low-fare carrier, serving 420 flights a day to 41 destinations.

Plans call for the installation of more than 200 Kinetics TouchPort self-service check-in units throughout AirTran Airways' network. AirTran Airways customers will be able to check in for their flights, select their seats, receive A-Plus frequent flyer credit, check bags and get their boarding passes, all in an average time of less than two minutes, according to a news release.

"Today's successful low-fare carriers are realizing that self-service technology is a must to make the check-in process easy and enjoyable," said David Melnik, president and chief executive officer of Kinetics.

Kinetics is provider of e-commerce and self-service technologies for the travel industry, and the dominant supplier of self-service technology to the U.S. airline industry. Its passenger check-in system connects to AirTran's reservations system, the Open Skies system from Navitaire. AirTran is the first Navitaire customer to deploy Kinetics kiosks and check-in software applications.

AirTran's self-service units, using Kinetics' KServices software, integrate passenger reservations data that reside in multiple airline and global distribution systems, including Sabre, Worldspan, Amadeus, Galileo and Shares, according to the release.
