TORONTO - Air Canada has suspended its Express Check-In kiosk program for the second time in two weeks in order to upgrade the system to comply with new security requirements.
Airline officials did not specify what kinds of changes were being made, but said they should be completed in ten days. Security has been tightened at North American airports since the terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., on Sept. 11.
Air Canada and Delta Air Lines both suspended their kiosk programs after the Sept. 11 attacks. Air Canada reinstated its service on Sept. 19. Its Express Check-in kiosks are available at eight Canadian airports, including Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. The system allows passengers to check in, get boarding passes, and request upgrades.
Minimum check-in times-from 30 minutes for express flights to three hours before international flights-remain in place despite the program's suspension.
