Air Canada lifts kiosk ban

March 12, 2002

TORONTO - Air Canada, which suspended its Express Check-In kiosk program following terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C., on Sept. 11, reinstated the service on Sept. 19.

A specific reason for lifting the ban was not given in an Air Canada news release. Air Canada and Delta Air Lines both suspended their kiosk services following the attacks even though self-service kiosks were not banned under new Federal Aviation Administration security guidelines.

Air Canada offers its Express Check-in kiosks at eight Canadian airports: Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Halifax. The kiosks allow passengers to obtain boarding passes, change seat assignments, and request upgrades.

Air Canada also announced that minimum check-in times had been reduced due to reduced airport congestion. Passengers can check-in within 30 minutes of flight time for express flights to Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver; one hour before other Canadian flights; 90 minutes before flights to the United States; and three hours before other international flights.
