Kaisernetwork.org: As part of a pilot, Aetna is expected this month to place kiosks that dispense samples of generic medications in physician offices in Philadelphia. The company has tested the machines in eight regions, but this new program "will be the broadest and the most rigorously analyzed for its effects on prescribing patterns."
The kiosks are expected to provide patients with generic alternatives to the brand-name samples physicians are given by pharmaceutical sales reps.
