Abuzz kiosks update Australian air travelers

July 16, 2003

SYNDEY, Australia -- Abuzz Technologies Inc.'s Sparc kiosk is being used by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in it's campaign to ensure that travelers have access to the latest accurate travel advice.

Expanding on the success of the kiosk launched at Sydney International Airport, DFAT installed travel advisory kiosks in international terminals throughout Australia last month, according to a news release. Foreign Minister Alexander Downer launched the new travel charter and introduced the customized Sparc kiosk at the Opera House in Sydney.

The addition of this touchscreen technology into airports will ensure travelers have up-to-the-minute travel advice and information at their fingertips. There are plans for the DFAT to station travel advisory kiosks at passport offices in a bid to improve public awareness about DFAT travel advisories, the release said.

"Through the Sparc kiosks, DFAT has embraced a forward-thinking, customer service philosophy that responds to the needs and expectations of Australians and Australia's visitors, today and in the future," said Morgan Drew, CEO of Abuzz. "Accessible up-to-date information and trusted advice is of critical importance in this unstable climate."

The Sparc kiosks are designed and manufactured in Australia. Abuzz also developed the Zap, winner of an Australian Design Award in 2003, and the Buz, winner of the same award in 2001. See related story, "Abuzz wins design award."

Other Sparc kiosk customers include Telstra, Australia Post, Audi, The Powerhouse Museum, Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, and Kodak.
