DALLAS - Continuing a pilot program that combines shopping with easy cash access, convenient store chain 7-Eleven Inc. (NYSE:SE) on Oct. 18 announced plans to add automated check-cashing to 36 Vcom financial kiosks in the Fort Myers and Naples areas of Florida.
The company installed the machines back in June. The automated check-cashing program is part of a pilot program launched earlier this year in 58 Texas stores.
During the pilot program, 7-Eleven will offer free check-cashing membership enrollment and cash a customer's first two paychecks for free. Marketing initiatives will also include advertising, in-store announcements and special events. Check cashing services are offered through Certegy Check Services.
The kiosks also offer ATM transactions and access to Western Union money orders. In a news release, 7-Eleven said the kiosks could eventually include bill payment services, event ticketing, travel directions and maps, and access to telecommunications services.
Company spokesperson Margaret Chabris told ATMmarketplace.com in late September that the company plans a national rollout of the Vcom kiosks in early 2002.
