7-Eleven, First Data gulp down 7-year deal

April 7, 2002

DALLAS and ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - Kiosks at 7-Eleven convenience stores will provide advanced financial services, including money orders, money transfers and check cashing, as a result of a seven-year agreement between Dallas-based 7-Eleven Inc. and First Data Corp. subsidiaries Western Union Financial Services Inc. and Integrated Payment Systems Inc.

7-Eleven has been testing Western Union hardware and software in five Dallas stores. Kiosks will be installed in another 89 stores in Texas and Florida this spring and summer. If successful, the kiosks will be placed in outlets throughout the United States. 7-Eleven has 5,300 U.S. stores. Future services to be provided include bill payment, deposit capability, event ticketing, travel directions and road maps.

7-Eleven's V.com kiosks provide web-enabled, integrated financial services inside 7-Eleven stores, going beyond the capabilities of ATMs.

Earlier this year, 7-Eleven announced a deal with American Express to allow shoppers to purchase an Internet shopping card, enabling consumers to use stored value credit cards for such activities as making purchases on the Internet.
