CHICAGO -- Kiosk development company 1stKIOSK demonstrated its Macintosh-based software platform, k-BUILDER, at Chicago's Frontline Expo Sept. 24-26.
k-BUILDER was used to demonstrate commercial applications for radio frequency ID (RFID), using Precision Dynamics' SmartBand technology, according to a company news release.
SmartBands can be worn by individuals at amusement parks, conferences, tours and tradeshows. The plastic bands are embedded with a small chip that can be updated with real-time information and then read by a scanning device. The band can be encoded with various information, including medical contacts or prepaid meal plans and admittance fees.
The SmartBands mark 1stKIOSK's first RFID implementation, according to the release. K-BUILDER can support smart cards, magnetic and bar code readers and USB receipts and coupon printers.
Valencia, Calif.-based 1stKIOSK debuted k-BUILDER in March at the KioskCom 2002 show in Orlando, Fla. The platform works with directory systems, registries, retail displays and coupon-dispensing machines.
