100,000 kiosks slated for India deployment

The Economic Times: India's state-run telecommunications company BSNL has announced plans to deploy 100,000 information kiosks by 2007. The deployment will bring broadband connectivity to 48 percent of rural India, according to a news report. India's Department of Telecom has "agreed to the concept in principle," the report says, and has indicated that it might disburse funds from the Universal Service Obligations Fund to various stakeholders.
