??Coinstar has made many a headline lately with its plans to broaden its kiosk businesses. It's been testing coffee and gadget-dispensing kiosks but now may add movie tickets to its growing list of products, according to a blog posted today on deadline.com.
Apparently, Coinstar, the parent company of redbox, referred to a "new redbox venture" during a Wednesday briefing for Wall Street analysts. Wedbush Securities' Michael Pachtertold deadline.com that he thinks Coinstar "intends to sell movie tickets through its redbox kiosks, helping its studio partners to drive higher-margin theatrical exhibition sales, while driving awareness of films that will ultimately come to DVD."
That's just speculation on which Coinstar won't comment, said Marci Maule, Coinstar's director of public relations.
"We do believe there is tremendous value associated with redbox's footprint of 30,000 physical locations as an entertainment destination. We're constantly exploring innovative ways to bring more value to consumers and retailers," she said in an email to KioskMarketplace.com.
Sounds like movie tickets will be coming soon to a redbox near you. Is this a good business venture for redbox? Leave your comments below.
