Grocery kiosks boost sales, operational efficiency

August 6, 2012 by Dean Sanders — Director, industry Sales, Zebra Technologies

Busy shoppers are confronted with a growing array of choices in the modern grocery shopping setting. They must determine where products are located, what items are on sale and which coupons are currently valid. which becomes even more complex in larger stores. To create a better shopping experience, more grocers are turning to time-saving self-service kiosks. In turn, this innovation has a positive impact on the bottom line by increasing sales, reducing operational costs and boosting customer loyalty.

Retailers often position their kiosks near the front of the store for the greatest exposure. Customers can easily locate desired products through the kiosk's interactive display which provides them a precise aisle location. Kiosks can also establish better product exposure, including sale items, which can create additional revenue.

In addition to increasing sales, kiosks can reduce costs. One way is through tracking functionality, which creates a significant reduction in surplus inventory by helping automatically track restocking and fulfillment requirements. Kiosks also ensure that consumers are able to control their shopping experience from start to finish, which allows grocers to better manage staffing requirements.

Self-service kiosks are also beneficial in attracting and retaining customers. They make it easy to implement customer loyalty programs, allowing stores to capture key shopper demographics and provide retailers with enhanced information on who is using specific services and how often. Kiosks can also address customer service needs in a timelier manner. Retailers with self-service options that can provide a hassle-free shopping experience are more likely to attract repeat customers.
