Four Winds Interactive has announced that its new iDS Kiosk, which can turn iOS devices into digital signs or interactive kiosks, is available for purchase through the Apple app store for $19.95.
According to a news release, the digital communications solutions provider has seen increased interest from companies looking to use iOS devices in their signage networks, which prompted the development of iDS Kiosk to work with its existing software products such as Content Manager and webPlayer.
"We're hearing from more and more customers (who) want to use iPads for their meeting room signs, menu boards, table game signs or interactive kiosks — or iPod touches — to power larger format signs," Will Pennell, Four Winds chief technology officer, said in the release. "We developed iDS Kiosk to be a cost-effective and easy-to-use solution for those organizations."
Four Winds founder and CEO David Levin said he's excited about the product. "[The] iDS Kiosk enables our customers to more easily leverage iOS mobile and tablet devices as an integral part of their visual communications strategy," he said in the release. "Combined with FWi's webPlayer, iDS Kiosk makes it incredibly easy to get any digital sign running on an iPad, iPod touch or iPhone, or to use those devices to power large-format displays."
According to the release, signs or URLs presented in iDS Kiosk will be displayed in full screen, without navigation and status bars, while letting users control the lock screen and disable sleep/auto-lock mode of iOS devices using the same Apple ID. Automatic cache refresh rates can be enabled or disabled for content updates, the company said, and the refresh rate threshold can be adjusted after the device is inactive for a specified time period. Each iOS device can store up to 10 URLs, and videos that are part of a sign channel can be configured to play automatically.
