Wincor World 2012: Retail division preview

At this year's Wincor World, which moved from Paderborn, Germany, to the A2 Forum in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, innovative solutions for retail and banking will take center stage.

From Oct. 16-18, Wincor World 2012 will showcase IT solutions for global retail, along with the latest cash processes for retail banking, aimed at enhancing the customer experience and increasing business performance and efficiency.

According to Wincor Nixdorf's Andreas Behr, this year's retail self-service side has no shortage of highlights.

"We have identified certain trends over the last year," Behr said. "Therefore we have prepared a solution portfolio that hopefully brings the right solutions for our customers and prospects this year."

Polytouch: A multitouch kiosk solution

Wincor Nixdorf's polytouch is designed as a multichannel strategy that connects retail stores to the online world. It allows for the usage of complex multitouch applications in industries like hospitality, retail, transportation and financial services.

"One very important capability from Wincor Nixdorf is to reply to dedicated customization," Behr said. "We have made a very unique solution for the hospitality arena for dedicated customer request(s)."

Available as an all-in-one terminal, polytouch offers a projected capacitive touchscreen with up to 60 touch points, full-HD resolution with an anti-glare surface and an integrated PC unit based on Intel Core technology and Windows 7 OS. Extension modules to add components like printers, scanners or card readers are also available on the device.

On the polytouch terminal, Wincor Nixdorf will present a variety of use cases from solution partners such as France's INTUILAB and Germany's People Interactive and OXID eSales in order to illustrate possible customer interactions with a kiosk application in a retail setting.

Other holistic solutions

The focus at Wincor World will include both cashier-assisted and self-service checkout solutions for a variety of store formats. The 360 Scan Portal will be featured to show how the checkout process can be optimized by reducing transaction times and improving store functionality.

By integrating the TP.iSCAN software as a core building block, Wincor will explain how to include advanced flexibility into a traditional checkout lane and deliver a cost-efficient multifunctional checkout solution.

"There is a huge market in the U.K. for checkout solutions," Behr said. "Our European clients are using kiosk terminals with a sleek design and small footprint to support their complete in-store shopping processes."
