The Queenstown Airport in New Zealand unveiled the prototype of an interactive kiosk that will inform travelers about basic road rules, stuff.co.nz reported.
The Drive Wise kiosk is aimed at reducing the crash rate and road accidents by using visual representations to educate those unfamiliar with the country's driving laws. The touchscreen guides tourists through what drivers should and should not do in a six-minute film marked with green checkmarks and red crosses, the article reported.
Queenstown Police Sergeant Kate Pirovano said that tourists crossing the center line were a major problem. "It just takes a few seconds for lives to change. If it saves one life then it's worth it," she said.
A combined effort between the airport, law enforcement, local district councils and rental car companies contributed to the creation of the kiosk. If successful, the prototype could be expanded to broader use at rental car companies and turned into downloadable content for smartphones.
