ANA Airports of Portugal and Vision-Box SA announced the installation of eGates in Terminal 1 at Lisbon Airport. The self-service biometric gates validate passengers' access to the departure lounge and became operational late in Decenber 2012.
Vision-Box's vb i-match checkpoint gates enable the automated processing of passengers by validating their boarding pass in whatever the format used — paper, electronic or smartphone.
The announcement said that the concept is currently in its pilot phase, but will enable an expedited self-service process at the airport's checkpoints, opening the way to increased passenger flow, more control and a better traveler experience.
"This partnership allows ANA to offer the most advanced technologies in the implementation of self-service solutions for passengers in complete alignment with the IATA TRAVEL FAST program, which is also supported by the ACI," said João Nunes, director of Lisbon Airport.
