Coinstar's latest kiosk concept is being tested at 21 Giant Eagle supermarkets in the Columbus, Ohio, area, according to bizjournals.com.
The yellow Alula kiosk allows users to cash-in unwanted gift cards; although, according to the company website, unusual-shaped gift cards are not compatible with the machine. Coinstar has been circling around the gift card business with recent projects, starting with last year's launch of the no-fee gift card incentive at the very store where shoppers exchange coins.
Other locations of the Alula kiosk include Safeway stores in Phoenix. Alula spokeswoman Elizabeth Lindemulder said the kiosks have paid out about $150,000 since the company began its test in September.
