The United States Postal Service is adding new self-service kiosks in a move to grow business and increase revenues, the agency has announced.
According to govexec.com, the kiosks will have improved screens and include a self-scanning feature, designed to expedite the process for customers waiting in line. USPS will employ lobby assistants trained to help customers opting for the self-service option, and the assistants will also help patrons in line to ensure they are prepared for their transactions.
The USPS has reached its borrowing limit after losing billions of dollars in consecutive quarters, the article reported. The move toward self-service will help the agency regain solvency by shrinking both its physical infrastructure and its workforce.
The kiosks will be available first in post offices in Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City and Washington.
