D-Dog House, a new hotdog and sandwich restaurant in Miami, is using iPad-ordering kiosks with POS capabilities to help customers get their food as quickly as possible.
The restaurant opened in May with tableside self-ordering iPad kiosks by Aptito Inc. The kiosks represent a new model for restaurants that are trying to reduce costs while increasing sales and not detracting from the customer experience, Gene Zell, CEO of Aptito Inc., said in a company press release.
"Our iPad Kiosks are profitable only after the first month of operations," he said after D-Dog's opening. "Customers simply can't get enough."
Patrons use the touchscreen on the iPad, which is housed in a mounted and protective kiosk enclosure at each table, and can view high-resolution pictures of menu items, enter custom cooking specifications and even tender payment using their credit cards after ordering their meals via the imbedded iPad POS.
The restaurant opted for iPad kiosks to offer a unique experience, one that included their point-of-sale system and a digital server as well as their menus. The digital menus on the kiosks are customizable thanks to a back-end interface that allows owners and management to use simple online software to custom brand their logo on menus, add items, prices, pictures and detailed descriptions, Zell said.
The self order iPad kiosk system is $99 per month per kiosk for software, or $300 per month for unlimited kiosks. The unlimited plan also includes Aptito's iPad POS solution. Kiosks can also be leased or financed for about $30 per month.
