CETWorld's special events include tours, massages and seminars

The Customer Engagement Technology World (CETW) conference has brought together sponsors and speakers to create a number of special events for its inaugural show.

CETW, formerly KioskCom and the Digital Signage Show, will be held Nov. 10 - 11 at the Javits Convention Center in New York City. It officially opens at 9 a.m. Wednesday with a Keynote Address from Chris Borek of retailer Target Corp.

One event that promises to be a highlight of the conference is the Coinstar contest – "Do you have the next Big Idea for a kiosk?" Industry leader Coinstar plans to give away $10,000 at CETW for the best new concept in retail-based kiosks. The firm says it wants to reward entrepreneurs with a great idea in the self-service and identify high-potential companies for future investments. The winner will be announced during the opening keynote.

Starting Wednesday morning, Harris will sponsor the first of its special event series, "Cooking Up Content: From Concept to Screen." Led by Lyle Bunn, these presentations are available to all CETW attendees and will take place in the Cooking Up Content Theater.

The idea behind the seminars is to provide agencies, brand marketers, network operators, end-user venues, resellers and integrators with over five hours of programming each day. Seminar topics include:

•    Content Strategies for Engagement: Understanding your Customer’s Mindset
•    The Future of Retail Digital Signage Content
•    Digital Signage: Creating Context in Content
•    Content Creation Strategies for Multiple Platforms

The Cooking Up Content seminars are intended to offer real-world examples of projects that have demonstrated positive customer engagement and led to improved ROI. Critical elements for creating content will be discussed, including content strategy and development of strategy briefing; how to create engaging, ROI driven content; tying your content to overall campaign goals; how to measure the effectiveness of your content; and content refinement strategies.

Attendees looking for an introduction to the CETW and the industry may want to take advantage of the Customer Engagement Technology Tour special event program sponsored by St. Clair Interactive Communications. The program offers two free 45-minute tours led by industry experts. Tours depart from the Tour Stop at the front of the Exhibit Hall.

The first tour begins at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday and will cover "Self-Service: What You Need to Know for Your Kiosk Technology Deployment." Topics covered include developing a kiosk program; the different types of applications; an overall picture of how self-service and kiosks fits into an organization; deployment costs; and measuring the ROI of a kiosk and self-service project. Attendees on this tour will see hands-on samples of kiosks deployed with different ROI models.

The second tour will begin at 11 on Thursday and address "Multi-Channel Customer Engagement Technologies: Understanding digital screenmedia and how the puzzle pieces fit."

For attendees looking to improve their company's social networking capabilites, there will be the Blogger Zone sponsored by SocialSphere. Visitors can chat with a media relations specialist about maximizing social media tools, get tips and tricks for the Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn social media sites, and see what people are posting live from CETW. Visitors will be able to update their status, and post a blog, photos and/or video.

Another tour is the Digital Signage Experts Tour presented by Minicom starting at 2 p.m. on Wednesday and 1 p.m. on Thursday. Participants will receive an explanation of the different components of a digital signage installation, be introduced to some of the leading players in the industry, and learn the keys to designing and implementing a successful digital signage installation.

It may be time for a break after all that walking. Visitors can visit the massage station sponsored by TeraNova. The self-service connectivity firm announced it would provide a "spa experience" with "a relaxing beverage and a courtesy massage in the midst of the Manhattan madness" at CETW. The massage table will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday and 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. on Thursday at TeraNova's booth on the show floor.

And what’s a good conference without a good party? Take the time to catch up with friends, check out the competition and visit the interesting new ideas bubbling up this year on Wednesday at NEC Display Solutions' VUKUNET Party from 4 to 5 p.m. in the exhibition hall.
